FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LIBERTARIAN PARTY SEES INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP AS VOTERS NOTE
PROBLEMS WITH THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM
Washington – Americans are deserting both the Republican and Democratic parties as the Libertarian Party sees an increase in membership. A survey released last month by
Rasmussen Reports found that a record share of Americans, 32.9 percent, identified
themselves as neither Republican nor Democrat.
Meanwhile, the Libertarian Party (LP)nationally has seen an 18% increase in membership.
The reasons for this shift are obvious according to Rob Hodgkinson, Chair of the Libertarian Party of Kansas (LPKS).
“People are realizing that neither the republican or democrat party is any different,” said Hodgkinson. “The only certainty with the current two party power structure is increased government in all areas of our lives.”
In Kansas the LPKS has seen a significant increase in activism over the past three years.
Many of the most active members are former registered GOP and Democratic voters.
“The LP does not take people for granted,” says Hodgkinson. “We do not look at people
as part of a demographic. It is not surprising that voters are finding an alternate political party based on the principles of individual freedom and personal responsibility as an attractive option.”
